There are five tiers in Krav Maga Worldwide for self-defense. Students are recognized with a certificate indicating their belt level and are promoted in a lesson.
Advance through the Krav Maga levels
Krav Maga levels are not easy to reach, but they are achievable. With hard work and dedication to practice and exercise, students can move from waist level to the next level. While it may take some time for a student to move from one level to the next, the strength of perseverance and hard work pays off. For students looking to advance, here are some important points to keep in mind:
Krav Maga Belt
Practice, practice, practice: the more, the better. The more willing you are to invest in your training, the more you will benefit from it.
Master the Movements – Keep learning a move and practice several times. Master each movement and make sure you stick to the correct form.
Study buddies: When you feel like you can train more effectively with a partner, have someone in the class practice with you.
Working with Krav Maga can be boring, challenging, and exhausting. However, keep in mind that the rating system is designed to keep Krav Maga intact. Ensures that all students are 100% ready to move from one belt level to another.
Receive your belt
After testing to reach the next belt level, successful students will receive their belt and diploma and advance to the next level. Occasionally, students who assess the next level fail the test. The student will generally work with the tutor to identify the areas needed to improve the Krav Maga Ranking.
Different levels and the duration of each level:
- Level 1 – Yellow belt test (approximately four months)
- Level 2 – Orange Belt Test (approximately six months)
- Level 3 – Test at Green Belt level (approximately nine months)
- Level 4 – Blue Belt Test (approximately nine months)
- Level 5 – Brown and black belt test (approximately twelve months)
Level 1: No white belt / yellow belt
At Level 1, students are basically a white belt working for the test, and a yellow belt wins them. This is not considered one of the belts that students can obtain within the Krav Maga Belt System, even though they obtained it at the beginning of the training.
A level 1 student in Krav Maga learns, trains, and urges to become stronger and more confident, which is an achievement. Level 1 training focuses on three things; Basic, basic and basic concepts. Students learn how to enter and move in an effective combat situation.
Students practice straight punches, hammer fists, ball punches, eye cracks, throat punches, front thigh kicks, front ball kick kicks, round kicks, center stances, and ground movements, as well as defensive acceleration measures, locks, wrist cuffs, turnbuckles, and more.
This is the basic set of tools a student will need to advance within the Krav Maga Worldwide system and defend themselves effectively. Students will be introduced to the Krav Maga Global Self Defense System principles, which they will also witness at higher levels.
Level 2: Yellow belt to orange belt
At level 2, students are awarded the yellow belt by meeting the required requirements and passing the level 1 exam. The next belt to earn is the Orange Belt.
The training becomes Level 2 more technical than Level 1 by introducing additional punches such as extra hooks and grabs, train choke, and concepts. Basics of being on the ground with an attacker. These ground technologies include fully assembled mode escapement and suffocation defense during assembly.
Combat at level 2 is featured with highly tuned drills that develop the skills necessary to deal with a reluctant live attacker. The focus is not on complete communication but on developing skills. Students begin to become familiar with and apply Krav Maga Worldwide’s self-defense principles as their training becomes more technical and intense.
Students must train at Level 2 for at least six months and attend at least 60 Level 2 classes to take the exam at Level 3.
Level 3: Orange belt to green belt
At level 3, you can further develop your defense skills with punches and punches, train punch combos, and improve your defense with punches and kicks. At level 3, live combat in-ground and foot combat become an integral part of the curriculum.
Students develop their knowledge and skills to deal with a reluctant neighborhood attacker. This is important to face increasingly serious and risky scenarios. Students must train in Level 3 for a minimum of nine months and attend a minimum of 90 Level 3 classes to be eligible for the Level 4 exam.
Level 4: Green belt to blue belt
As a green belt in Krav Maga, students develop advanced self-defense skills and earn a blue belt. At Level 4, students gain great experience in striking combinations, duels, and training with a reluctant partner from disadvantaged situations.
This level is about perfecting tactics and developing expertise. Weapons defense training was intensified here with the introduction of knife defense. Combat techniques on the ground will expand, and students will begin to familiarize themselves with eliminations and defenses.
Students must train in Level 4 for a minimum of twelve months and attend at least 120 Level 4 classes to be tested at Level 5.
Level 5: Blue belt to brown belt to black belt
The focus is on developing a better understanding of defense with knives and extended weapons and handling multiple attackers and protecting third parties.
This is the most advanced level of self-defense training from Krav Maga Worldwide. Blue belt students must train for at least one year in level 5 and 120 level 5 classes for the brown belt exam.
Once a student achieves a brown belt, the fifth level of training elevates the student to an overall proficiency level to be invited to the black belt exam. This typically occurs after an additional year of Level 5 training, but the period may vary depending on the student’s skill development and the training’s consistency.
